The Most Effective Natural Carpet Cleaners

Would you rather take a natural approach to carpet cleaning? From the desire to maintain an eco-friendly home to saving money, there are lots of reasons to choose a natural carpet cleaner. Using them between professional cleaning sessions can still prolong the life of your carpet, providing you take the right approach.

Pre-treat stains using baking soda

Baking soda is a natural base, which means it acts as an effective buffer against the acids in any natural stain remover you use. Its base properties also allow it to neutralise odours, making it especially effective against substances such as wine, milk and cat urine. Sprinkle a small amount on your target stain and allow it to stay there for an hour before moving onto other treatments.

Break apart dark stains with vinegar

As an acid, vinegar is particularly effective when trying to break apart stains. It's worth noting that lemon juice will have the same effect and it will leave behind a citrusy smell. Regardless of which one you choose, all you need to do is add it to a bottle and spritz it directly onto a stain, or on top of baking soda that's already there. Allow it to work its magic, then sponge most of it away. Afterwards, remove the rest using a hoover that works with wet fabrics. It's worth noting that acidic natural carpet cleaners may make certain stains set in, including egg yolk.

Create a fresh scent with essential oils

Using essential oils as a carpet cleaner is an excellent opportunity to take a creative approach. And, there are two ways to use them. If you want to leave your room smelling fresh, mix yours with some fresh water and spray them around the room. Or, if you want a natural alternative to carpet deodorisers, mix a few drops with some baking soda and sprinkle the substance onto your carpet. Afterwards, hoover it up and enjoy the longlasting scent.

Tackle fresh stains with hot water

If you're lucky enough to spot a fresh stain before it has a chance to dry, use hot water to remove it. Dip a clean cloth into hot water and ring it until it's damp, but still steaming. Use it to dab up the stain. The heat should break the molecules of the offensive product apart, but won't remove them entirely. Use a second clean cloth to absorb more of the liquid, then move onto a more effective carpet cleaning product.

With natural carpet cleaners, you can maintain your floor in an environmentally-friendly way. If you want to enjoy a fresh carpet throughout the year, consider using a professional cleaning service too.

About Me

Cleaning up after tenants

I have a few rental properties and you wouldn't believe the mess that some tenants leave when they vacate the premises. They think that the bond will cover the cleaning but sometimes I'm also embarassed when I have to show the cleaning services what they will need to clean up. At least it's not my fault that the place is so messy. The cleaning services are always professional and when the place is really bad I can take the tenants back to the small claims court and claim back the cost of the excess cleaning bill. This blog is about cleaning up after grotty tenants.
